Let your visitor login with their social accounts
This is a new plugin for indexu. We integrate rpxnow.com free service which enable you to allow your visitor to login into indexu website with their existing social accounts like twitter, facebook, yahoo, open id, google, etc.
In my opinion this plugin will increase signup rate. After their first login, indexu will copy their personal infomation like name and email into indexu user table. Later they can login with their social accounts or this new user created by indexu.
To make this plugin work, you need to signup at rpxnow.com to get your api key. Insert this api key in indexu plugin configuration.

Dmoz Extractor plugin, utf-8 ready!
Today we released Dmoz Extractor plugin for indexu. This plugin is intended to fill the weakness of our software Extreme Dmoz Extractor which failed to parse utf-8.
As I explained in earlier post, this plugin work in different way. To make it more clear I will explain in better way here.
1) I assume you have installed indexu properly and this plugin too.
2) Unlike Extreme Dmoz Extractor that require you to work on empty database, this plugin is cleaver enough to handle the category structure so you can work on your current database, no need to make it empty.
3) The first step is uploading categories.txt (http://rdf.dmoz.org/rdf/categories.txt) to your indexu installation, put it in /upload_files folder. You can do this manually with FTP client or using the uploader provided in this plugin.
4) The next step is to ask indexu to load the data from categories.txt into database. This is necessary to speed up the process. Please prepare your webhosting space for mysql. In our case we end up using 74MB for this table only.
5) Now we are ready to import categories or links from Dmoz.org. If you import the links without dmoz’s category structure you can skip this step. Here you can also import the categories and its links at once. Make sure the check it in the form if you want.
6) Importing links are easy. Just point to dmoz’s category url then assign its category. You can also include all links in subcategories.
This plugin is so flexible and easy to use. It will help you to populate the data in more flexible way to make your directory look different with others. It will also reduce the chance from being flagged by google for duplicate contents.

Dmoz extractor as indexu plugin
With the problem of extracting utf-8 with Extreme Dmoz Extractor, we decide to develop its php version. The new dmoz extractor will be serve as indexu plugin. It will import directly into your indexu installation. The good news is that now you can import the category structure to be assigned to any category id which mean it will allow you to have final category structure which is different from what dmoz.org has.
How it will work.
1) It will read http://rdf.dmoz.org/rdf/categories.txt (about 50MB size)
2) Then import all the category data into database. It will make your database huge, be prepared. This step is required to speed up the import process.
3) Enter the category_id as the parent (you will get drop down category list here, don’t worry) and the dmoz.org url that serve as category page
4) According your entry above, it will filter the data and import them to category table.
5) The next step is rather require long time to run. It is the only solution to get the links data. The plugin will visit each category page (with curl) then parse the content for links. Then import them into link table. So if you have 700 categories in your database, then it will curl the dmoz category page 700 times.
This plugin still in development phase. I will post here when it is ready. It will be available for indexutemplates.com members.

Indexu Deluxe 1.4.2 Released

There is no bug fixed in this release. But we do some improvements:

We have 3 new plugins to be added to indexutemplates.com. These plugins are important to improve your user experience when visiting your indexu powered website. Here are:
eBanner 2.0
In this version we implemented what I have written in my earlier post about eBanner plugin, in whats need to be improved in next release section. Now it has default banner so your visitor will know that you have an empty ad space to sell. And when they click on this banner, they will be redirected to the banner order page. I believe it will make easier for advertiser to buy ad space.

Sociable, a port from popular wordpress sociable plugin
The second plugin is a complete port from sociable wordpress plugin. It does the similar function. In admin panel, you can select your preferred social bookmarking websites to be displayed in detail and listing pages.
Quick category adder
This plugin is very useful when you start an empty directory. The first thing you need to fill you directory is creating categories. In normal way it could be time consuming since you will go to add category page one by one. With this plugin you can enter your categories in a single entry.
To make the category structure, you can use [two empty space] to indicate that this category is the child of the upper category. To make it more clear, see the following screenshot.

Selling ad space with indexu, automatically!
Last month we develop a new indexu plugin called eBanner. This is not an ordinary banner management, but what we really want is to allow you to sell banner or ad space while the advertiser can do it themselves without need to contact you. Just like how they upgrade their listing.
Here is the flow:
1) You define the banner type / ad space location. Here you set ad space specification and pricing.
2) Your website member enter the user control panel (/cp). Here they will get list of available ad spaces. If they are interested they can buy ad space here. Filling the form for banner upload and destination url or using html/javascript code for banner. When they submit this form, they will be forwarded to payment processor. When the payment completed the banner will be alive in public page.

4) This is the form in /cp (user panel) where they can buy the banner
After you created a new banner type, you will be given a special hook for this banner, something like <%$hook_html_banner_top_place%>. The hook name use the banner type name you have entered before. In this case, it is ‘banner top place’. To make it work, you must put this hook into your template. You can place it anywhere you like.
After adding hook, you also need to perform ‘clear template cache’ in admin panel.
This plugin is a very good plugin. It work well, but it doesn’t perfect at the moment I think. There are many room to make it perfect. What we would like to improve more in ebanner 2.0 later are:
1) Make available ad space to have default banner. So instead of displaying empty space it will display a default banner showing that this ad space is available.
2) When the user click the default banner above, it would be perfect if it will redirect them to the order page.

Indexu payment gateway setting is moved into database
Sometimes when upgrading to new version, the old payment gateway setting become overwritten. When this happen, you will lost payment gateway setting and you will need to reconfigure them again.
To prevent this happen over and over again, we move this setting into database. This update will be available for October release.
